MINING DISPUTE
ADDRESSES AT WESTPORT. VIEWS OF EACH PARTY. Per Press Association. WESTPORT, October 29. At a largely-attended public meeting in the Town Hall to-night, addresses on the coal-mining dispute were given by Mr Bishop, secretary of the Coal Mine Owners’ Association, and by Messrs Mcßride, Lock, and- Whittle, district miners’ delegates to the recent conference. The various points of the dispute were traversed, sometimes a bit heatedly, but, on the whole, in a manner calculated to give the public a good understanding of the position from the points of view of the contending parties. Finally a committee was set up to endeavour to devise some means by which an amicable settlement of the dispute could be effected.
