ROWING

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wellington Amateur Rowing Association was held last night, when Mr C. J. Symonds occupied the chair. The chairman, when moving the adop* tion of the annual report and balancesheet, stated that the financial statement was very satisfactory when everything was taken into consideration. Cash at bank was stated to be .£lO 15s 9(1, other assets being, the Wellington Rowins Club's capitation ,£1 10s, and plate (Pearce Cup, Bridson Cup, Mother Shield and Redding Shield .£50); assets over liabilities were set down at <£s6 19s 9d. The chairman stated that tho control of the intejjH’ovincial championship fours was allotted to Wellington. The race was conducted by the regatta club in conjunction with its annual regatta, and attracted entries from Auckland, Canterbury, Marlborough, and Nelson, in addition to the Wellington Association's repiesentatives. The executive wished to congratulate the Canterbury Association on its success in this race, and to thank all the associations mentioned for their support. The executive wished to emphasise tho disappointment which they felt in regard to the selection of the crew to represent Wellington. They felt that the continued .success of this fixture was entirely dependent upon the support which local associations received from their various clubs, and they, therefore, trusted that whatever arrangements mav be made during the coming season would receive the support of all three local clubs, irrespective of individual club interests. The thanks of the association were due to the officers of the Wellington Harbour Board for their assistance on opening day; to Mr .T. G. Duncan for his donation towards the association's funds; and to Mr A. D. Eayfeikl for his services as selector of the association's crew for the interprovincial fours. CONTROL: OF THE SPORT.

Wkei moving certain alterations to tho rules, Mr E. Diehl said it was not in the interests of rowing generally in Wellington, that it should be controlled 'by two clubs. The chairman thought little exertion could fee taken to the proposals, which l dealt principally with voting power, and gave them bin support. Ho added that the proposals were in the interest of rowing in general, and that they had the support of the exo cutivc.

A motion reducing the number of delegatee to three from each club, wax defeated, an amendment permitting

one president and vice-president from each club with voting powe?*, being declared carried in its place. The other minor amendments were agreed to, as recommended by the executive. An election of officers resulted:—• .President, Sir lTraneis Bell; vice-presi-dent. Mr A. W. Newton; secretary, Mr E. Diehl; auditor, Mr C. W. Alack.

An honorarium of £3 3s was voted to the secretary, subject to the sanction of the New Zealand Council
