DARING AIRMAN
AN ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. LONDON, October 16. Swift drama attended the inauguration of the flying boat service between tlie Channel Islands and 'Southampton. Captain Biard, while conveying four passengers to Southampton, saw Captain Bailey’s machine, the Sea Eagle, which contained no passengers, fall into a rough sea off Alderney. Captain Biard dropped to lend assistance, but tho waves hurled the terrified passengers around the cabin. Captain Biard heroically struggled back to port. The fate of Captain Bailey and his mechanic is uncertain.
