A ROYAL SHOW
TO ENCOURAGE NEW ZEALAND FARMERS.
HON. R. F. BOLLARD IN FAVOUR
I hope the day will come when we will have in New Zealand a Royal Show, said the Hon. 11. F. Bollard (Minister for Internal Affairs), in the course of a speech in appreciation of the hearty welcome extended to him at a smoke concert held in Carterton in conjunction with the Wairarapa Agricultural Show. One big royal show, said Mr Bollard, would go a long way towards raising the standard of exhibits. At 6majl shows prizes are given for certain of the animals, which, if shown at a Royal Show, where competitors from all parts of both islands would be vieing with one another for laurels, would probably not gain those prizes. Prizes would be harder to obtain, and that fact alone would encourage producers of stock to reach a higher standard than at present exists at some shows. A voice : Give us a subsidy.
Mr Bollard:, I will be pleased to give my vote in favour of a Royal Show. (Applause.)
