ELECTORAL SYSTEM
PREFERENTIAL VOTING APPROVED BY FARMERS’ UNION. Mr W. J. Poison moved at yesterday’s sitting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Un icn :—“That owing to the unsatisfactory result of the Parliamentary elections from the farmers’ point cf view, the Government bo urged to adopt a core doniooi atio electoral system t-han now obtains and suggests the adoption of preferential voting.” Mr Poison thought preferential voting would suit the farmers well. Mr A. E. Harding seconded, and said the proposal had his hearty approval. Mr A. Ross supported the motion, end Baid the present system of voting was much too haphazard. Mr H. E. Kevins thought preferential voting would lead to confusion. The motion was carried.
