MARANUI SURF CLUB

The twelfth annual meeting of the Maranui Surf and Life Saving Club was held last- night in the club rooms at Lyall Bay before a good attendance of members. Mr G. S. Hill was in the chair.

In opening the meeting, the chairman said that the club should have a very successful season. The alterations to the club premises had been carried through, and in his opinion it was one of the finest club houses he had seen. (Applause.) The Lyall Bay S.L.S.C. wrote asking If the Maranui Club would combine to make a grand carnival on opening day. It was decided that the club should have an opening day and the launching of the surf boat combined, and afterwards have a combined day with any other club at a later date, THE YEAR'S ACTIVITIES. The committee was pleased to report that the surf boat had been built and paid for. and that the City Council was arranging for the accommodation of the boat next to the club house. It was hoped that the club would be able to train teara6 in ample time for the opening of the season. It was felt that with tho boat and the reel teams working in unison the possibility of a batndng fatality would be reduced to a minimum. The membership of the club stood at Ift2.

Out of eight competitions entered for, the club team won four, which reflected preat credit on the captain, vice-captains, instructors of tho club. A very high standard of efficiency had been obtained by the members.

The committee reported a substantial increase in the number of awards gained by the club member© during the season.

AFFILIATION SWIMMING CENTRE. The question whether the Maranui Surf and Life Saving Club should withdraw horn the Wellington Centre was brought up. M?r F. Chapman moved: "That the club does not affiliate with the Wellington Centre, but that members showing promise in competitive swimming be requiring to join an affiliated swimming club." After- discussion the motion was withdrawn.
