MAGISTRATE'S COURT

YESTERDAY’S SITTING

POLICE. CIVIL AND BY-LAW CASES. Mr Tj. rage, tf.'M., presided over yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, when police cases were dealt with. A first offender for drunkenness was fined os, in default twenty-four hours imprisonment. Louie Busbridgo, with one previous conviction for drunkenness, was fined the amount of his hail, £l. Michael Francis Carrick was charged with assaulting Henry Mickle while in a drunken condition. A fine of £1 was imposed, in default three days' imprisonment. FIGHTING IN GREY STREET. William Murphy, alias Tyler, and Daniel McEwan were charged' with using threatening behaviour. , Senior-Sergeant .Lander stated the two needed were found fighting in Grey street. Murphy had a leng list of previous convictions and deserved no consideration. The other accused had a uhorter list of convictions. His Worship imposed a fine of £4, in default fourteen days imprisonment on Murphy, and £l, in default three days imprisonment on the accused McE'won. No time was allowed to pay the fine. Frank George Henderson, charged with failing to support his three children, wae remanded until to-day. THEFT OF BICYCLES. Charles Patrick McAllister -was charged with the theft of & bicycle, valued at £B, the property of William Neill McKinnon. Two other charges of the theft of bicycles were laid, the value of the bicycles stolen being £7 10s and £8 respectively. Chief Detective Kemp said that the first two thefts took place at Feilding. Accused had borrowed a bicycle from a man named William Neill McKinnon and had sold it to a cycle agent. Ho did the same thing with a bicycle belonging to one Hepburn Robinson. Ho then went to Lower Ilutt and took a bicycle belonging to Matt Shiel, a resident of the district. Accused took the machine into Petone and was in the act of selling it when he was arrested by the police. On th .< application of Chief-Detective Kemp accused) was remanded for one week for sentence.

JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. On judgment summonses D. Brewer was ordered to pay the C. and A. Odlin Timber and Hardware Co., Ltd., £4 5s Bd, before November 6th, in default three days' imprisonment. A. E. Geddes to pay Frank Manttan and Co., Ltd. (in liquidation), £3, before November 6th, in default three days' imprisonment. J. Proctor to pay Smith and Smith, Ltd., £1 2s, before October 30th, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. BY-LAW CASES VARIOUS OFFENCES. Offences against the by-laws were dealt with by Mr E. Page, S.M. Harold Gordon Dockett was fined £1 and costs for leaving a motor-car unattended. David Ferdinand Lodkin for leaving a motor-car without head lights, was fined 10s airi costs. On a second charge of leaving Ihe car unattended for more than 15 minutes, defendant was fined a similar amount. Ten shillings and costs was the amount of the fine inflicted upon Norman Harold McDonald fev having no rear lights to his car. Leaving a motor-lorry unattended cost Melville Wilkins 2fls and costs. Exceeding a speed of 15 miles per hour le.l to William Charles Crockford being fined £2 and costs. On a second charge of driving a car around a corner at a speed exceeding six miles per hour, defendant was fined £1 and costs. Charles Joseph Loughnan was fined 30s anl costs for driving his motor-cycle, on the Hutt road cycle track. For driving a motor-car in a negligent manner, Andrew Anderson was fined £1 and costs. Defendant was fined a similar amount for exceeding the speed limit around a corner. Errol Flaws was fined £1 and costs for having no head lights to hia car. On a second charge of having no roar-lights, defendant was ordered to pay costft only Exceeding the speed limit over an intersection cost Peter Palmer 30b and costs George Leighton Stewart was fined 30*» and costs for driving on the wrong side of tho street. WANDERING STOCK. Allowing stock to wander oost James Feeley £1 and costs George Flaws was fined £1 and costs for allowing a horse to wander. Charles Jonathan, for allowing a horse to wander, wa« fined 5b and costs. Five shillings and costs was the amount of the fine inflicted upon Laur Alphonse St. Romain, for allowing a cow to wander. Two charges were laid against John Stewart for allowing stock to wander. On the first charge defendant was fined £1 and costs, and on the second 30s and costs. Arthur ’Westropp was fined 5s for allowing a horse to wander. Driving past a stationary tram-car led to Charles Edwards being fined 30s rnd costs Nancy Mitchell was fined £2 and costs for driving past a sationary tramcar FAILURE TO ATTEND DRILL. Stanley Andrews was fined £2 and costs for failing to attend drill. On a second charge of failing to notify change of nddiess. defendant was fined 10s and costa.
