THE NEXT STEP
BRINGING THE ACT INTO OPERATION. BOARD TO BE ELECTED. Notv that the poll for bringing into operation the Dairy Produce Export Act jins been carried, the next step towards the end is the gazetting of the result of ine poll, and the of a proclamation by His Excellency the Governor-General declaring the Act in force. These steps, it is anticipated, will shortly be taken. That done, arrangements must be made establishing tlie Dairy Produce Control Board, which is to constat of twelve members. Two of these are to be appointed by the Governor-General as Government representatives. nine will be elected br the producers, and one is to bo appointed by His Excellency as representative of the manufacturers of dairy produce or sellers of such produce out of New Zealand, whether as agents or on their own account. The last-named member will be appointed for a term of three years, while the Government representatives will hold office during the pleasure of the Governor-General. Six of tlie producers’ representatives are to be elected by direct vote of the producers in the North Island, and the three others by the producers in the South Island. Tlie term of their appointment is for three years; but the Act makee provision for certain of them to resign at .etated periods, those to retire being determined by lot. The Department of Agriculture is now considering what regulations may be necessary to define the procedure to be adopted in the election of the producers’ representatives and to guard against any irregularities.
