HOW THEY RAN

SOME INTERESTING FINISHES. THE RUNNING DESCRIBED. The annual meeting of tho Levin Racing Club was held at Trenth-am yesterday in fine weather. The oourse v, as in good order and much faster than it was for the two days of the Wellington meeting. The attendance was fairly good, and should result in a profit. The meeting was held at Trentham, of course, to financially assist the Levin Club, and everything seems to have worked out well. The sum of £31,722 was put through the machine as against £13,705 last year when the meeting was held at Levis THE CHIEF EVENT. The chief event of the day, the Leviu Cup, saw the defeat of the favourites* by the Taranaki horse, Stork, whose stablemate, Hipo, just failed to win the open six. On the whole the racing was good. LOCHSON WINS EASILY. Bon Spec was sent out favourite for the Manakau Hurdles and Lochson was next in request. Bon Spec rushed ts the front and was a long way out as the field entered the hack, stretch, where Gold Star, Otauru Kid, Lochson and Nukumai were handy.. Bon Spec came back to the field crossing the top stretch and Lochson took charge at the bottom of the straight, going on to win easily by six lengths. Comical finished well and cut Gold Star out of second money. Ron Spec was fourth. A FAVOURITE SCORES. Rouex and Paula were the only two backed in the Two-year-old Handicap, and while the former won nicely the latter ran badly. Misa O'Dille and Kilmar were the quickest to begin, and Mias O'Dille led on to the course proper with a good break on the field. She was still in charge at the distance, but tired and Rouex took command, winning by two lengths from Kilmar (who finished well), Kilbrennan and Miss O’Dille. MISGOVERN AND GLAIVE DEAD HEAT. Refrigeration was the only withdrawal from the Hokio Handicap for which Misgovern was a warm favourite, and the only other solidly backed was Tinohari. Misgovern got away badly, and Hall Mark was the first to show out. Hall Mark arid Heathcote led on to the course proper and below the distance Hall Mark had charge, with Glaive on the rails, threatening danger, and Misgovern coming fast. A few lengths off the post Glaive, Hall Mark and Misgovern were almost in line. Hall Mark failed in the last bit and the judge declared Misgovern and Glaive to have - dead-heated. Bayana was fourth. STORK WINS THE CUP. All the acceptors except Counter Attack were saddled up for the Cup. Bonetter, Rouen, and Kilbird were well backed. Zouave and Lady Ben were the early leaders, and at the mile poet they had charge from Auckland and Admiral Codrington. At the six furlongs Lady Ben was in charge, and Arch Salute had run up behind ,Zouave, while Rouen was last. Helen Rufus showed up on the home bend, and Stork improved his position. Helen Rufus took charge at the distance, but Stork wore her down, and won by over a length. Kilbird was a good third, Printemps fourth, Rouen fifth, and Bagdad sixth. .AERIFORM BEATS ALARIC.

The public selected Aiaric and Aeri form for the McDonald Memorial Welter, and they were well on the mark. Lady Kotiripo went to the front as soon as the field settled down and Pro bate went with her. At the five furlongs Last Crust joined tho leaders, and the trio piloted the field into the straight. I.ast Crust and Aeriform were going well in the leading division two furlongs from home, but Aiaric, coming on the outer, collared Last Crust, but could not get to Aeriform, who won by half a length. Last Crust was a close third, Diamond Ring fourth, and Bodyguard fifth. A GREAT FINISH. After the success of Stork, Hipo was sent out favourite for the Flying. Gazeworthy went to the front at the rise of the barrier, and with Kilris led on to the course proper, where Hipo immc- | diately challenged. In a great sef>to ! up the straight Gazeworthy won by a head. Backsheesh was three lengths back third, and Happy Days and Kilns were next. EONMARK’S EASY WIN. Elvaette was the best backed of the lot who contested the Lake Handicap, and Elothenes was the best backed of the others. Eonmark hit the front at tho start, and never lost his position. Blackhead was well up at the home turn, but did not finish on. Mountain Crag and Vindictive challenged in the . straight, but Eohmark went away and I won, without being extended, by two lengths from Mountain Crag. Vindictive was a good third. Elothenes fourth, and Elvaette fifth. HOT FAVOURITE FAILS. The meeting concluded with the Horowhenua Handicap, in which Bugle Note was sent out a very shorKpricod i favourite. Bugle Note showed opt soon after the rise of the barrier, and Treadwell and Merit were well up. Bugle Note did not stay on in the run up tho straight and inside the distance Merit and Treadwell had charge. With a late run on the rails Cushat cut down the leaders, and won by three lengths. Treadwell just beat Morit. Bugle Note was fourth, and Martinique | fifth. ■ •
