SAILORS’ FRIEND SOCIETY
At the Sailors’ Friend Society on Sunday, Mrs Dunn and Mrs Weston entertained the men to tea in the afternoon. Mr J. Moore, missioner, preached in the evening on "Proofs, Proofs, and More Proofs.’* Mrs- H. Good was organist, and Messrs Warnes and Thomas took the lessons. Miss Passau sang the solo "There is a Green Hifi,” with great feeling. The song service that followed in the institute was the source of great- pleasure to the many present. On Labour Day a special car conveyed a happy party to Karori Park, where games of a most delightful character were carried out, under the leadership oT Mr Moore, missioner, who was most ably assisted by his workers. The ladies beat the .men in the tug-of-war, and the Mahana beat all-comers yi football. Lunch and tea were served in . gipsy fashion by a band of ladies, under the guidance of Mrs James Moore. Prizes donated by friends of the work were won by the following:—Mr H. Oolpus, the Misses M. Spencer, E. Williams, T. Colpus, J. Colpus, and Messrs Mein, C. Erickson, Wayland, C. Pike, Hudson, Crammer.
# The journey home was enlivened with singing, and on arrival at the institute a most delightful concert was tendered to the men by Mrs Montgomery, who brought the following performers, who met with overwhelming applause: Mrs P. Morgan, the Misses E. Williams, Paesau, M. Kelly, and Messrs T. T. E. Jones, Allan, Adams. A feature of the evening was the rendering of the recitals of Colonel Purdy, who was encored again and again. Mrs P. Morgan was at the piano.
The vote of thanks moved by Mr H. T. Johns included all who had contributed to a day of wonderful pleasure.
