Dr Elizabeth Gunn letf on Wednesday for "Wellington, en route for Australia. Mrs and MUs Moss of Kilbirnie, of Kilbirni© (Wellington) have been on a short holiday visit to Wanganui. lhey returned home on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs A. Simpson, of Hunterville were in ‘town last week. Mr C. Cooper, of the gas department, Gisborne, has been on a holiday to Wanganui. He left for Wellington on Wednesday. , Mr Pryor, of Masterton, "who has been the guest of Mrs R. McCrowther, of Liffiton street, returned home this week. Mr W. R. C. M-acPherson, accountant 6l' the National Bank here, has been appointed manager of the Nelson branch, and leaves here early in November. He will bo succeeded by Mr C. F. Bruce, at present chief bill clerk in the local office. Miss Graham, Wicfestead street, and Mies Bain of Gonville. are spending the week-end, and holiday, at Hunterville. The Queen Alexandra Band, and the R.S.A. intend opening a big carnival in what used to be Everybody’s Theatre. A garden party and various stalls were hold at Mr F. W. Walker's on Saturday afternoon. The proceeds go to the Wanganui East stall. . . . A button match (bogey) was to have been played by the "Wanganui Ladies Golf Club on the Belmont links on \\ ednesday. Owing to the rough weather it was postponed till next Wednesday. The local Amateur Athletic Club opened the season on Cook's Gardens on Thursday evening. . The Wanganui East Swimming Club held their first annual meeting on Tuesday evening. There were 30 present. Mr E. Walpole presided. Ramsey, late engineer to the Castlecliff Town Board, was presented by the employees of the board with an inscribed silver cigarette case and solid gold cigarette holder. The presentation was made by Mr Nott, and others spoke Xn replying Mr Ramsey, after thanking the men, asked them to piny the game to Mr Gumbly, his successor, and so ietain the admiration and confidence of the ratepapers. Mrs Spinks, of Palmerston North, is staying with her sister, Mrs G. Hean, The Avenue.

Among the business was a letter from the Nelson Hospital Board asking this board to support a maternity ward being added where j.-ossible. There was a good deal of discussion. One or two members being dead against it. However, on being put to the meeting, it’was carried, only Messrs Fletcher and Ritchie voting against it. •
