The summer baseball season opened on Saturday at Association Park, when A and B teams from St. Patrick’s College were drawn against each other. Nevertheless, the game was on the whole a good exhibition of baseball. Bolder captained the winners and hit three rune. Greig (two runs) waa brilliant on second base. Cooper (two runs) proved a capable pitcher. In the fifth innings he disposed of three consecutive batsmen with three successive balls. Barry was safe as keeper of the first base. He scored two runs, aa did Cameron and Kelly, whilst Halpin made throe rune. Cameron brought off a magnificent one-handed catch For the losers, Goodson (captain) pitched beautifully and also hit three runs. Solomons umpired efficiently. DAV BOYS B (3 runs) BEAT DAY BOYS A (2 runs). The fielding in this game was alightlv better than the previous one; the win ners (captained by McCarthy) being smarter than their opponents. Krebi brought off a brilliant catch as well at a smart double play. Sales proved himself to be a capable pitch, and with a little practice should make a reputation. The runs were made as follow:—Me Cartliy (2). Sales (2). O’Connor (1), Costello (1), Butler (1), Hathaway (1). For the losers, the captain (Courtenay) showed himself the best allrounder. His pitching though a trifle erratic is of good quality, and he has a capable pair of hands with which ho brought off a clever catch, which disposed of Hathaway. He also scored one of tiie only two runs made by the side. Three of the side were unfortunate in not having scored, being left on bases many time'. Feme wore inclined to be lazy on the field, but otherwise possess Mime sterling players capable of doing well ax the season wears mi. As* the game started late only five innings were played.
