Bowden, Federal Minister For Defence, speaking at the Anzao Range paid a tribute to the value of rifle shooting. He reviewed defence problems generally, and said that Australia would not revert to the old system and contribute to tho Imperial Navy. That was a reactionary view. He said that Australia was unprepared in defensive matters, her ooastlino was in a deplorable condition, and the lack of efficiency in the Australian fleet was staggering.
