ARGENTINE BEEF
FOREIGN PURCHASES CEASE: OBJECTION TO NEW LAW. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 21, 5.5 p.m.) BUENOS AYRES, October 20. The British and American packers have informed the Government that they will cease purchasing' Argentine beef, in the expectation that all shipments to Europe will cease within a month, as the result of the passage of a law fixing the minimum price of 27 centavos for chilled beef cattle, 24 centavos for foreign beef, and 19 centavos for tho Continental type. The packers do not object to the price, but to tho classification, since they have been accustomed to purchase whole herds, and the law* will so seriously derange their methods of procedure that it would be more economical to cease operations. The Government has informed the packers that it regrets the law, but it W'll be enforced.
