SATURDAY’S SITTING. POLICE AND JUVENILE CASES. I Mr E. Page* S.M., presided over l Saturday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, >v*hen police cases were dealt with as follow : Martin Samuel6on, with five previous convictions for drunkenness, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, and a prohibition order was taken out against him. THEFT OF BOOTS. The theft of a pair of men’s boots was the charge laid against James Ward, a labourer, 43 years of age. Inspector Cummings stated that a constable had observed the accused standing in the doorway of the City Boot Store. The constable, who was on the other side of the road', saw the accused take the boots and secrete them, and arrested him. Accused was a married man, and had a long list of previous convictions. Hie Worship imposed a sentence of two months’ imprisonment, and made an order for the return of the boots to the owner. PURLOINED CARPENTER’S TOOLS. Six charges of theft of carpenters' tools were laid against a middle-aged anan, Hamilton Logan. The total value of the goods stdlen was £2 18s. On the application of DetectiveSergeant Cameron, accused was remanded until Friday, the 26th. Bail was fixed at £75. JUVENILE COURT IN POSSESSION OE FIREARMS. Mr E. Page, S.M., presided over the sittings of the Juvenile Court, when several, offences were dealt with. Three boys were charged with being in the possession of firearms. It was stated that one of the boys owned a pea-rifle, and the two other lads had also fired it. They had a quantity of ammunition, and nad fired at a girl who was standing outside a house on the opposite side of the street. Canon Feilden Taylor, who appeared for the boys, said that they were the eons of respectable people, and were not hooligans. The act was one purely of mischief. After cautioning the lads as to the serious consequences which could attend such an act as firing at a small girl, Hi 3 Worship dismissed the case.
