The Ripple is due to-day from Gisborne ] and sails again to-morrow. The Invercargill, which arrived yesterday from YY’anganui, will make her return trip to-morrow. 1 The Holnid.ilo is due on Thursday from southern ports. The John sails tomorrow for the south and is due back in Wellington again on Saturday. The Progress is due tc-morrovv from Lyttelton and Nelson, and will load here for New Plymouth and Waikato ports. The last-named will now be in regular service with YVellington for the first time. _ . , The Kapiti sails for Wanganui to-mor-row at 5 p.m. The Wairru is due to-morrow from Blenheim. . The Echo is due to-day from Blenheim. The Wakatu is due on Wednesday from Lyttelton and Kaikoura, and sails again , on Thursday. The Kennedy sails for Foxton tomorrow. The Atua cleared Wellington on Saturday for southern ports. The Corinna leaves New Plymouth tomorrow for Wellington, and. after discharge will load again for the same port. The Flora is at present loading for Dunedin, Timaru, Lyttelton and Auckland. The Ngakuta leaves to-morrow for Auckland direct. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line adviso that the Port Stephens should rfcaoh Auckland by Friday. She left New York on September 22nd, and cleared Colon on the 30th. From Auok’and she comes to YVellington, thence Lyttelton. Port Chalmers, Melbourne, and Adelaide. WHAKATANE AT ADELAIDE. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise that the Whakatane reached Adelaide on Thursday from Liverpool.

CITY 0F BIRMINGHAM. The Federal Company advise that the City of Birmingham left Auckland on Saturday for Napier. This vessel arrived in the northern port on Wednesday last, and is due in. Wellington about Saturday. OIL-BURNER MAORI'S FEATS. The Maori made her first run. in the ferry service as on oil-burner when she replaced the Wahine on Saturday night. The change over has been highly successful, and it is reported that fine has already done 18 knots, and that she is capable of 20. On Friday night she left 105 minutes after the Wahine, and after catching the latter vessel up, eased down and entered the port 25 minutes after her. The trip took eleven hours. On Saturday night she left Lyttelton at 8.40 p.m. and arrived in Wellington at 6.55. CANTERBURY STEAMERS. Messrs Turnbull and Co. advise the following movements: — The Gale sails to-morrow for Picton and Wanganui, and is due back on Wednesday. She will then leave for the south. The Calm is due on Wednesday from Bluff, Oamaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton, and 3&ils the same day for Wanganui. lONIC DUE TO-MORROW. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the liner lonic is due at Wellington to-morrow afternoon, and will discharge passengers only. She leaves on Wednesday for Lyttelton to discharge, and thence proceeds to Dunedin and Bluff for discharge and loading. She then goes to Auckland, Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton, and sails finally from Lyttelton for Southampton and London via Monte Video and Teneriffe on November 29th. R.M.S. MAUNGANUI. The Union Steamship Company advise that the R.M.3. Maunganui was to have cleared San Francisoo on Friday for Wellington. She is due here on November 9th. NIAGARA AT SUVA. The Union Steamship Company advise that, the R.M.S. Niagara from Vancouver is due at Auckland on Friday next. On clearing the latter port she will proceed to Sydney. TRANS-PACIFIC SERVICE. Movements of the Union Company's trans-Pacifio steamers are:— The Hauraki, from Pacific Coast ports, via San Francisco, is due at Auckland on October 21st. She proceeds later to Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. The Waiotapu left San Francisco on October 16th for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on November 9th. The Wairuna, from Sydney and Newcastle, via Auckland, left Auckland on October 17th for Fanning Island and Vancouver. She loads at Pacific Coast ports during November for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney. The Waihemo, from Pucific Coast ports, via Port Angeles, 8.C., is due at Apia about October 22ud, She proceeds later to Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and New Plymouth. The Kawatiri lias been fixed to load at Sydney for Fiji, taking through, cargo for Friendly Islands and. Samoa. She will leave Sydney on November 6th. MOERAKFS NEW ITINERARY. The Union Company advise that the Moeraki was to have left Bluff on Saturday afternoon for Melbourne, whore she is due on Wednesday. She will leave the Australian port on Saturday for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. It is worthy of note that Wellington will be the last port of call instead of the first, as lias been the case hitherto. Thus the Melbourne service returns to pre-war conditions, when Bluff always had the honour. NOTICES TO MARINERS. Tho Marine Department notify that a black-painted iron beacon, staff, and cage, height 24ft, on a concrete bate, the top of which is awash at high water, has been erected on a rock at tho western end of what is locally known as Maloney’s Reef, situated between Brown’s Bay and Gull Point, north-woel ward of Rangitoto Channel, at the entrance to Auckland harbour. The beacon marks the eastern side of the inshore channel between Gull Point to tho northward gild Brown's Bay to tho southward. Publications affected : Admiralty Chart No. 1896, “New Zealand Pilot,’’ ninth edition, 1919, page 184. The mariners are also- notified that the original light on Jackson’s Head beacon will be re-established, at a height of 46ft, on the evening of Thursday, October 11th, 1923. The characteristics of the light remain unaltered, viz., . light, (U), occu-lating, 6 seconds (eclipse 3 seconds), height 46ft, visible 10 miles; structure, concrete beacon; the light is obscurod from OlOdeg. to 050 deg. This notice supersedes and ' cancels Notice to Mariners, No. 52, of September 11th, 1923.
