The first test of Otago 14-foot yachts for the Sanders Cup race, to be field at Wellington, was sailed on Saturday on a course from the Otago Yacht Club to the Ohallias buoy, twice round, a distance of nine to ten miles. There was fine weather, with a light southeast, full-sail breeze, which dropped later. The Heather, which led for most of the race, came in first, about 50seo ahead of the Kia Ora, with the Mona a few seconds behind. At the end of the first round, the Heather was a minute ahead of the Kia Ora, with the other compete tors some distance behind. In tho second round, the Kia Ora and the Mona made up some leeway, but failed to pass tho leading boat, which completed tho course in about 2bra 35mm. It was a good race from the viewpoint of both competitors and spectators following tho vessels. Also competed—Emms, June, Valmai, and Ton a. Winifred broke a gudgeon of her rudder, and did not sail.
