The story of how a mother threw her baby into the Thames because she was obsessed with the idea that it would grow up a cripple was told at the Old Bailey, when a jury found Ada Kaslofski, 26 ycijis old, guilty of murder. The jury added a strong recommendation to mercy. The woman burst into tears and had to he removed as the death sentence was pronounced. The prosecuting counsel said the woman separated from her husband, and entered domestic service, taking the child with her. Misunderstanding what a doctor told her, she conceived the false idea that the child had infantile paralysis. At! midnight on August 2i6th, she was seen to throw the baby over Westminster Bridge. Afterwards she tried to jump in herself, but passers-by prevented her. Bhs, told a friend that without the baby she had netting to live for.
