ORGAN RECITAL
AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. The excellent programme submitted at the Town Hall last night by Mr Bernard F Page (city organist) was greatly enjoyed by a most appreciative audience. The first number was Handel’s “Largo in G,” played by request. The simplicity and charm of the theme, which has. made thi6 one of the most popular of the great composer’s works, were very finely brought out. There* followed such varied selections a a Vitali’a “Chaconne”; the “Fountain,” music and duet from act 11., scene 1., of Debussy’s “Pellens and Mclieande,” the melody of which seems woven of sunbeams and running water, while the delicate orchestration is perfect and richly coloured: and, also by request, LemaTe’s beautiful “Summer Sketches/' “Dawn/* “The Bee,” “Cuckoo,” “Twilight,” and “Evening.” Tho concluding item was Cesar Franck’s “Finale in B flat” (Op. 21).
