OPERAS USED FOR FOX-TROTS. DAMAGES CLAIMED. Australian nnd NZ. CahV® Aanociatloii. (Received October 19. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. October 18. Signor Giacomo Puccini, the composer, on the grounds that the themes of his operas are being put to artistically and morally degrading uses, has begun an action against his publishers, the Recordi Company. He claims that his themes have been plagiarised for American fox-trot-music, states that the principal airs of “La Tosca,” and “Madame Butterfly” have been so used, and demands payment of the receipts of all sales, and an indemnity for moral and artistic damage.
