ARMISTICE DAY
NO CENOTAPH CEREMONY. NON-CHURCHMEN INDIGNANT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received October 19„ 5-5 p.m.) LONDON, October 18. A considerable body of public opinion, especially non-Churchmen and Catholics, deplores the abandonment of the religious ceremony at the Cenotaph because Armistice Day happens on the Sabbath. Hie national oeremonv should not be confined to the National Church, it is contended, since Catholics and Jews made sacrifices in the war equally with the Church of England, and they should not be debarred from attending the celebration.
According to an earlier message, thv ceremony at the Centaph will he replaced by church services. The Cenotaph ceremony will be resumed next year.
