FINAL RESULT OF POLL. 22,284 FOR, 92 55 AGAINST. The counting of the votes cast at tho postal ballot, taken to decide whether or not the Dairy Produce ExportControl Act passed last session is to be put into force or not was completed shortly after 6 o’clock last evening, and the Chief Electoral Officer (Mr G. G. Hodgkins) announced the final result lo a ‘Times” reporter as under ; : For the Act 22,284 Against the Act 9255 Majority for 13,029 There were very few informal votes, stated Mr Hodgkins; and in the majority of cases it seemed that tho voters had purposely made them invalid, rot wanting to vote one way or tho other. The counting of the votes was carlied out by Air Ilodgkins’s stall. Alessrs Maxwell and Leonard acted as scrutineers for the opponents of the Act; the supporters did not appoint scrutineers. A curious feature of the poll is that while the first returns indicated a fiveto one majority in favour of the operation of the export control proposals, the proportion in favour steadily decreased in the later returns.
