GANGER TREATMENT
RADIUM DEPARTMENT WELLINGTON DECIDES TO RAISE £2.0,000. CANVASS FOR £IO,OOO. The movement to establish a radium department in Wellington has now somethin;? definite in -view, and it now has also definite means of obtaining the objective. At a meeting presided over by the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright, M.P.) it was decided to approach prominent men anti women throughout the district for donations, and also to issue circulars appealing t-o the general public. £20,000 is tho mini required, and the committee has decided to raise the sum of £IO,OOO by voluntary gift which, with the Government subsidy, will provide, a modern radium department. It- is hoped that the money will be available by Christmas. SUPPORT FROM DOCTORS. Dr. Ewen said that tho District Medical Association had offered to endorse t-iie proposal, and they were prepared to add to the appeal a paragrah signed on their behalf by Drs. Herbert and Fenwick. It was decided on the motion of air Wilson, seconded by Mr Chapman, that the B.M.A. be thanked for their support. Opinion was expressed that such action would greatly facilitate the collecting of the money, as it would place the value of the movement beyond all doubt. Mrs J. Andersen suggested that toe Mayoress should call a meeting of women from the various women’s bodies jn order that their support might be obtained. , , . ~ The Mayor thought that this could be done , , Tt was decided that the circular tobe is sued should be signed by prominent citizens throughout the district.
