READY IN FORTNIGHT
NEW KHANDALLAH ROAD WORK DELAYED BY SLIP ON WEDNESDAY. CARS SOON THROUGH. Within a fortnight the long job on the Onslow road, which has kept the works department of the Citv Corporation busy for many months p,vt, will he completed. The first Saturday in November should sec the road finished. : unless something unforeseen occurs. In ! point- of fact, carg should he able to get through on Tuesday or Wednesday next. The department has had 30 men engaged on the work until the lart few days, when iscvcral of them sought other employment, and the fact that other men may leave will be the only cause of further delay. The work has suffered one set-back already. the heavy weather at the beginning of the week, during which the men did nothing. being followed by a big slip on Wednesday evening. This will have tc bo cleared away, and the extra work involved haa put the calculations of the department back a week at least. A BIG DIFFERENCE. The road itself will make a saving of a mile at least to those Who desire t-o reach the district which it serves, which at present has to be approached by the main Khnndallah road. The new road runs from Hutt road to Cashmere avenue, and branches off to Homebush in various directions. The country served by the first road is not very habitable, save in patches, but at Homebush the land is very suitable for settlement. The cost of the road, at present uncomputed, is part of the £129,000 under the special loan which was authorised by the poll taken on September loth. 1920. There it appeared ae a “new road to Khandah lah ”
