GENERAL

FINDLAY IN CHRISTOHRUCH. West Christchurch haa a new bowler, says the Christchurch “Sun.” J. D. Findlay, once a Wellington representative and a member of the staff at the VYigram Aerodrome, ha 6 been added to the attackers. He is now West’s main bowler, for he opened the attack on Saturday, and bowled more than anyone else, tossing down 19 overs. With his arrival, W. Hayes, the chief destroyer of hopes last season, has been relegated, at his own request, to the ranks of the occasional, change artist. It’s a pity that Hayes dislikes bowling so myan, holding the idea that trundling affects his hatting, for, although the -vickefc on Saturday was certainly not the kind to suit him, he was always liable to send in a shooter, especially at the south end, where tho pitch was a trifle rugged. Findlay is a good man, and though the pitch lacked devil he compelled both Patrick and Gasson to play him. for, until near the close, when he tired. fris left-hand deliveries were of almost irreproachable iength, while he varied his pace a great deal. One peculiarity is his run, for he trots almost the length of a pitch before he releases the ball. And he is not a fast bowler, but medium-paced. G'. A. Cocks partnered him in opening the attack, and the two trundled together for 35 minutes before a relief. Then Hayes took over from Cocks, sent down two overs for three runs, and went off again, this completing his bowling for the day. Cocks had hard I uric afc the start, for early Patrick whisked a bail from him to L. Haynes' at third man, the fieldsman dropping the catch, which was a fairly easy one, by the way. A CRICKET PREMIER. Tho new English Premier, Sir Stanley Baldwin, is a keen follower of cricket. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, and has seldom missed an Eton and Harrow or inter-university match at Lords during the last thirty years.
