CAR SERVICE TO HUTT ?
CROSS-COUNTRY SERVICE. AMERICAN SYSTEM. The extent to which inter-urban or cross-country cars are operated in America is surprising, particularly when it is remembered .hat the majority of American towns are well served with railways, declared Mr M. Cable, chief ?ity electrical engineer, in the report with reference to his recent visit to the United States. When i* Schnectady, New York State, he found that he could hoard street cars in the centre of the town and travel to either Albany. Troy, or Amsterdam, situated in different directions about 20 miles away. In Vancouver the city terminus for the interurban system is located under the company's office in the centre of the city, where excellent waiting rooms are provided. From this terminus care depart at regular intervals throughout the day for Chillawack, about 75 miles away.
“I am of the opinion that under similar conditions in America an electric counertion. would be provided between Wellington city and the Hutt Valley, even although very little revenue could be picked up along the whole length of the Hutt road.” was the opinion expressed bv Mr Cable.
