SAFETY OF MINERS
RESCUE STATIONS. GOVERNMENT INQUIRIES MADE. The need for the establishment _of rescue stations and providing lifesaving appliances in readiness to deal with any disaster that may occur in the mines throughout the Dominion was brought before the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister for Mines) this week by a letter from Mr P. O’Rourke, secretary to the New Zealand Miners’ Federation. In liis reply to Mr O'Rourke, the Minister states that the matter has been engaging hi 6 serious attention for some time past, and that the Government has been making inquiries on the subject through the High Commissioner. London (Sir James Allen), and the Home Office authorities. The request of the miners’ executive, added the Minister, will receive his careful consideration when the investigations now in hand are completed.
