LAND AGENT CHARGED
ALLEGED DEFALCATIONS TOTAL £IOOO.
The arrest was effected by Detective Murray of a land agent named Alfred Scoon, who was charged with stealing rents totalling £94 los 2d, which amount he was alleged to have received on terms requiring him to account for or pay it to Dwan Bros. When the accused appeared before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, it was stated by Detective-Sergeant Cameron that the alleged defalcations would approach a total of something like £IOOO. Just before the accused’s arrest, the police came into possession of information which led them to believe that he intended leaving the country.
Appearing for the accused, Mr IV. Perry denied that his clent had any intention of quitting the Dominion. A remand for one week was granted, bail being fixed at £SOO, Scoon is to report daily to the police.
