FATAL ACCIDENT
TRAIN AND MOTOR-CAR COLLIDE. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, October 37. At 3.15 o’clock yesterday afternoon tho Rotorua express collided with a motor-oar at a crossing two miles east of Matamata, throwjng the car 20 yards and smashing it. Two people were in the car. The driver, Mr Dave Morrow, of Matamata, was killed, and Mr W. Crowther, secretary of the Auckland City Sinking Fund Commission, rendered unconscious. The latter suffered shock and severe abrasions, and was taken to a private hospital. He is considered to be out of danger. The engine whittled continuously, but the occupants of the car appeared rot to hear, and took no notice. The train was running at an average speed of 30 miles an hour.
