WAIRARAPA SHOW
NEXT WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. The forty-6ixth Wairarapa Show is to be held at Carterton on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, and the people of the district will be pleased to know that this year’s fixture will be equal to the best shows held in the past. The entries in the horse classes are well up te the average, and the light horses are very numerous and of a high standard. Competitions on both days have filled well, and, therefore, the ring events can be relied upon to keep the public interested. Draught horaes, though, not numerous in numbers, will be worth seeing. In the sheep sections there is very strong competition in all breeds, and the capacity of the yards has been overtaxed and additional pens are being erected to accommodate tbe exhibits. The purebred dairy cattle are again stronger than ever, and the record established last year baa been exceeded. Ayrshires are again the strongest section, with Friesians and Jerseys close behind, whilst the milking shorthorn are very much stronger than for some years past. The grade dairy classes are also as strong as ever in numbers, arid it ie anticipated that the quality will improve on the already good standard set at previous shows. A feature this year in both the sheep and cattle classes will be the number of young stock on exhibition, and the judges will have a task in allotting the prizes, particularly in the class for hogget ewe in the unhoused Romney section, where there are 23 entries, and in the Ayrshire yearling heifer classes, where there are 27 entries.-,
The dog entries are wfthin a few entries of the record number of last year. Cooking, sewing, and fancy work exhibits will interest the ladies for an hour or two on both days, and the school exhibits, especially the drawing, wilThe well worth inspection by every one who visits the show. Altogether this year’s show promises to excel all previous ones.
