LABOUR DAY SPORTS
A SPLENDID PROGRAMME NEWTOWN PARK ON MONDAY. In another oolumn will be found formal announcement of the arrangements i made for the Labour Day sports, to be , held on Newtown Park on Monday. The programme includes various amateur | athletic events, which will be run off | under., tbe auspices of the Wellington i centra of the N.Z. A.A.A., and many [events for cchool children, both of pni raary and secondary schools. There are j very good entice for the primary schools | championship and the challenge cup pre- [ sente® last year by Mr A. B. Preston, ; and though the entries in the secondary ! schools National Cash Register Company’s challenge oup competition are not so large- aa in the primary schools division, there ie an increase on those of last l year. The Sommerville medal is offered for the secondary schools pupil gaining moist points in the competition. A special relay race is being arranged by the Carpenters' Union. This year the baby chow is being replaced by, novelty idea, the lucky baby, a lottery that is not a lottery, since thore is no entrance fee. All children up- to eighteen months of age may be entered, and tbe draw will take place-at 3.30 p.m. In the evening the official Labour Day farcy, poster, and plain dress jazz ball will be held in St. Petef-’s schoolroom.
