From the first occasion since the transference of the No. 3 Company, N.Z.G.A., into the 15th Battery, New Zealand Artillery—a unit that is embodied in the Wellington Navals' Boating Society—this company, which furnished a crew, representing the W.N.8.5., to row against the Petone Navals for the White llor.se Cup, defeated the suburban ex-Navals last Saturday on their own foreshore by three-quarters of a length. The trophy, which was presented to Captain J. Abel (O.C. of the Battery) by the donor (Mr B T. Taylor, senior), was handed over by him to the Battery hoys at its parade last evening at Buckle street. Captain Abel, in doing so, complimented the crew on its gipat victory, and gave the history of the cup, and the various wins and losses by the two rival Navals. He heartily congratulated them on the fact that, after eight years, tho newly-formed Batteiy had brought the cup borne to the W.N.B.S. The object of Mr E. T. Taylor in presenting the cup for competition between the two Navals, he stated, was to encourage the spirit of the boys in bine, and he hoped that, having made this first win, the Battery would keep up that spirit and well maintain the traditions of the W.N.8.5.. (Applause.) Three hearty cheers were then given for Captain Abel (coxwain of the crew and -O.C. of the Battery).
