A SOUTHERLY GALE

COLD WEATHER AND RAIN. Wellington yesterday experienced rather a severe reversion to the colder weather experienced in this city some months ago. The weather report fox the previous day gave little hope of fine .weather, indicating as it did that strong southerly winds and rain were to be expected generally. Th© southerly winds came as predicted, apparently bringing with them ths ohm from the snow also predicted in the South Island. Intermittent showers made the day doulbly unoomfortable, and! coming as it did after such a spell of almost tropioal weather, everyone was wrapped up in coats once more. VESSELS SHELTERING. There was very little movement in shipping at Wellington yesterday, the majority of the vessels sheltering on the coast, while others in port remained at the wharves until the weather abates. . The majority of the vessels which arrived yesterday experienced heavy weather, and were subjected to considerable buffeting about. The Hararoa had some little difficulty in berthing at the Glasgow wharf. There wexe only two departures yesterday, the Moeraki and the Mararoa for Lyttelton.
