CRISIS IN MALTA
PREMIER FORCED TO RESIGN. PRO-ITALIAN SPEECH. Reuter’s Telegram. (Received October 15, 10.10 p.m.) MALTA, October 15. The political crisis which resulted yesterday in the resignation of the Premier, Mr Joseph Howard, is undoubtedly attributable to a recent speech made by Mr Howard at Rome, in which he allegedly made remarks conveying an impression of pro-Italian sentiments, and urged the learning of Italian by the Maltese, as it would of great use in, the near future. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 people to-day attended a demonstration of loyalty to the British flag. The meeting unanimously passed a resolution protesting against the Rome speech, and reffirming loyalty to the Crown.
