ABOLITION OF NIGHT BAKING. CARTERS GIVE NOTICE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. SYDNEY. October 15. Since night baking has been abolished, the bread carters have been compelled to finish their runs late in the evening, in consequence of the delayed time of starting. Tho union has for months pa6t been endeavouring to secure a partial return to night baking, or some other arrangement to finish ealier. The employers are also dissatisfied with day baking, as it entails delay in deli Yen css till the bread is baked, or else necessitates runs being commenced with the previous day’s bread. The bakery employees, backed by the Arbitration Court award', have resolutely refused to give way on the issue. The bread carters have now issued an ultimatum that they will refuse to serve customers from October 27th, after 5 o'clock. The chairman of the meeting explained that the ultimatum meant that" if the carters were in the middle of their rounds at 5 o’clock, they would take tho bread back to the shops.
