SCHOOL COMMITTEES
ALLOTMENT OF GRANTS. MINISTER ANNOUNCES NEW SCHEME. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, October 15. A new system of allotting school committees grants for incidental expenses was announced by the Minister for Education (the Hon. C. J. Parr), in reply to a deputation from the Can* terbury School Committees’ Association, which made a general complaint that the grants were too small. The Minister said he could not see his way to increase the rate of the grant, which was proving sufficient for the needs of nearly all the committees in the Dominion. However, he intended to try a change in the method of distributing. The greater part of tlio grant s»y, 80 per cent, would be alio* rated to committees on the capitation basis as at present, and the remainder would he left in the hards of tion hoards for distribution at thoir discretion.
