The Wellington Carnival and Advertis-' ing Association wrote that it intended holding a carnival from Jailuary 19th to 26th, and requesting the association’s assistance. "Everybody here is anxious to assist in this matter," said the chairman, and a committee, consisting of Messrs Buck, Salmon and McGirr was appointed to confer with the carnival committee on the subject. Broad last evening the Wellington Cricket Association decided that it would write to the secretary of the Rugby League in Melbourne to inquire as to how their knockout competition was worked. This was after Mr Broad had suggested that it might be possible to conduct the senior cricket championship on knock-out lines after a certain number of matches had been played. SENIOR FIXTURES SEASON OPENS SATURDAY. Following are the senior cricket fixtures for Saturday. October 2Ctfch : Petone v. V.M.C.A., Basin Reserve No. 1. Wellington v. Thorndon, Basin Reserve No. 2. Old Boys r. Midland. Kelburn. Butt v. Institute, Hutt. PRACTICEJVICKETB ALLOTMENTS MADE. Th» report of the senior championship committee, tabled before the Wellington Cricket Association last evening, stated that there would be a much restricted area for practice wickets at their disposal this year. With the improvement scheme for the Basin in progress the area on which practice wickets were to be allotted was roughly 54 yards on the northern end; and 110 yards on the southern end. This would enable them, by using the ground to its utmost' capacity to provide six wickets at the northern end and nine wickets at ths southern end. These had been allotted as followslnstitute 2 wickets. Midland 2, Old Boys 2, Wellington 2, Y.M.C.A. 8, Central Mission 1, Selwyn It total, 13 wickets. Two wickets were reserved for coaching wickets. The above 13 wickets were available forthwith, and the coaching wickets would be available in about a fortnight. Midland, Old Boye and Wellington were accommodated at the north end, and all others at the south. The report was adopted. HOUBE MATCH HANNA AND KING v. N.Z. RAILWAY ADVERTISING STUDIOS. On Saturday last, at the Ehstbourne recreation ground, a match was played between teams representing tbe above

institutions, and resulted in a win for Hanna and King by 191 runs to 140. Haliday, Boss, Wickqm, P. Judd, Knight. PETONE OVAL PROPOSALS BY ASSOCIATION. A proposal "that an area of at toast 80 feet by 90 feet be dug up on the Oval and properly laid out with suitable material. thus providing first-class wickets in future," was in these words forwarded by the Wellington Cricket Association to the Petone Borough Council and considered last night. The association offered the council the same conditions aa obtained last year, excepting the senior wicket. "After viewing the wicket intended for the use of the senior etovene the committee has ’ decided that it will fie Impossible to Play any games on the Oval this season. However, they propose to use the remaining four wickets on the adjoining ground for junior games." After discussing the letter, the council deferred action. CRICKET AT CHRISTCHURCH. Albans, arid B. A. Gasson 111 for Sydenham. In -the new senior B grade competition, R. J. Carleton and R. H. North made a first-wicket stand for 263 for Bt. Albans, scoring M2 and 127 reapectiyely.
