FLYING CONTESTS
FRENCHMAN FALLS TO DEATH. BRITON’S FINE ATTEMPT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received October 15, 12.10 a.m.) LONDON, October 13. In the flying contests at Lympne, a Frenchman, named Maneyrol, in his first attempt for the altitude prize, reached fen thousand feet, when the petrol pipe broke. He drifted seaward, but made a good landing. Tho Britishers, Piercy and Hammereley, claim that they reached 13,000 and feet respectively. When Maneyrol was returning to the aerodrome after his second ascent, and was still 75ft from the ground, the wings of his machine folded, and he crashed. Maneyrol died in a few Minutes.
