WILFUL NEGLECT
FATE OF A CHILD. NATIVES HEAVILY FINED. Per Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, October 13An unusual case was heard before tho magistrate, Air Dyer, at the Ormondville Police Court, when two Natives were charged with wilfully neglecting a child under four years of age The defendants had adopted the infant, now four years old, in December, 1921, they being relatives of its parents, hut in May, 1923, they had abandoned it, and left the district. The cliild was in a bad state, being hungry and badly nourished, covered with sores, and clad only in a frock and old coat. The magistrate saact the case was a very bad one. Accused were each fined £lO or two months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
