BASEBALL
FINE PLAY AT MIRAMAR. At Miramar Park on Saturday St. Patrick’s College tried out a number of teams against the rest of the association with the object oi choosing representatives for the forthcoming competition. The services of the association coaches were freely availed of, and the students showed great aptitude and ability, readily grasping the main and finer points of the game. The fielding of the collegians was a treat to behold. Specially smart was the work of Uniake (2 runs), who struck as first baseman. He made no mistakes. O’Connor (3 runs) and Jeffreys were also fine, whilst McCarthy and Kelly showed clean ground work. Of their opponents, Doherty batted well, and soored 3 Tuns. Krebs (2 runs) was a keen field, as were Barry, Crawford, and McCarthy. Mr Saul Solomons umpired the game, which was won by B team, 13 runs to 12. In tho second game the coaches took charge, and succeeded in unearthing some potential champions. S. Cooper pitched well, whilst D. Cooper, Goodson, McSherry, and Hura showed promise. M. Pitt should make a good pitcher—with practice. Hyman was a trifle erratic, but should do well later on.
