CROQUET
LEVIN CLUB'S OPENING. (Special to "N.Z. Times.") There was a large and representative pjv'hcnng when the Levin Croquet Club opened its season, a number of those present coming from Otnki. The lawns were officially declared open bv the Mayor (Mr T. Hobson) who, on behalf of tho club, welcomed the visitors, al the same time tendering the apologies of the president (Mrs Kirk), also Mesdames llall and Stevenson, unavoidably absent on account of sickness He congratulated the club on its achievement in holding the "Pollock Stars" ngainst ontMdc compet.it ami also on the fin© appearance of the lawns and general surroundings. which would in turn become a spot of which the club would havo every reason to be proud. He then called on the Mayoress to play the first ball and declared the lawns open. A d-iint\ afternoon tea was served under tho able supervision of tho tea commit Ice, competitions Leinir afterwards entire! int<' with much enthusiasm, the winners being Mrs Olliver 'OtnkU, Mis* Kydcr. Mi. s ' Whittnlu*r, Mrs Do Malinnnrhe. and Airs Nicholson, the trophies bring presented by McMomes Kirk, Pink, Ryder, Stevenson and Hughe?.
