BANDITS STOP TRAIN

At Ashland, in Oregon, bandits flagged a train, shot and killed the engine-driver and fireman, dynamited a safe in the express oav_, killed the mail clork, and then lo3t courage and fled. The engiiio had just cleared the tunnel, and the coaches within the tunnel •Acre filled with smoke. The explosion caused a panic, and several passengers were injured in the rush. A message from San Francisco says that the four bandits escaped in a highpowered motor-car with a registered mail tho value of which has not yet been determined.
The bandits, in cold blood, Bbot four of the train crew without giving them an opportunity to know what they were facing. Posses are searching the countryside, which is mountainous and unpopulated. The railway authorities have offered 2500 dollars reward for the apprehension of the bandits. |
