SURF AND LIFE-SAVING

MARANUI CLUB. TWELFTH ANNUAL REPORT. A successful year’s work is recorded In the twelfth annual report of the Maranni Surf and Life Saving Club, whmh is to be presented at tbe annual meeting on October 95 th. NO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. | Although severely handicapped by tbe shortness of the eeaaon the work was i carried on with the utmost keenness, and rebooted great credit on the committee I and members. That Mo-saving was once more taking its plaoe in the interests of the community was evidenced by the increased interest ahovn in the work of the club by the general public. Owing to the keen watch kept at all times from the club tower and the readiness of tbe teams on all occasions no serious accident* had oeonrred daring the seaeon, although on several occasions tbe club teams won able to avert what might have resulted in a serious accident. The respocee or members for duty In alarm teams had been good, and it is hoped that more members will make themselves available during the coming season.. FINANCE SOUND. A satisfactory financial position of affairs was reported. Although commencing the new seaeon with a Small oredit balanoe, there were no outstanding liabilities to meet. The revenue had decreased owing to the dosing of the ladies branch of the club, and it would be necessary to devise some new way of increasing tbe annual revenue. With the prompt payment of subscriptions the committee would be able to maintain the clubhouse and gear, and to make several necessary improvements. Thanks were due to the social committee, who had mad* it possible for a large amount to be spent on the improvement of the clubhouse. A special surf boat and improvement account had been opened, money having been raised by collections ana by the social committee, and the response both from the club members and from the public bad been good. SOCIAL WORK FOR FUNDS.

Several ladies had assisted in helping the club to raise funds to purchase the surf boat, and their efforts were 'highly successful. The ladies were entertained at a social evening at the house of Mrs W. J. Goddard. The surf boat had been built and paid for, and the City Council is arranging for accommodation of the boat next to the clubhouse. It is hoped to train teams in ample time tor the opening of the new season. The committee felt that with the boat and the reel teams working in unison the possibility of a bathing fatality will bo ledneed to an absolute minimum. MEMBERSHIP. The membership of the club atands at 102, of which four are life members. 60 active, and 38 non-active. Some members had had to be removed from the roll for not submitting himself for examination for the bronxe medallion during the season, while others had defaulted in subscriptions. New members were urgently needed. The club rooms had been enlarged' and renovated, and were now the most complete and up-to-date in Wellington. The life-saving clasqea had been well attended, and there had been a substantial increase in the number of awards gained.
