DUNEDIN EXHIBITION

DUNEDIN, April 17. A meeting of the provisional committee in cohnection with the 1925 Exhibition appointed sites and finance committees. The opinion was expressed by some that it would he a'pity by making the exhibition purely Imperial to deprive our manufacturers of the opportunity of seeing the work of other countries. The finance sub-committee was recommended to report early on the Scope of the exhibition. ,1 GOVERNMENT GIVES MORAL SUPPORT. •

DUNEDIN, April 17. ■ Deputations consisting, of the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr J. S. Douglas) and other members of the exhibition committee waited on the Prime Minister at Palmerston .-.to-night-, and asked for some official recognition of the exhibition to he held at Dunedin dn 192526.

The Mayor sard he would like to be able to announce to the committjae'that he (Mr Massey), as head of the Government, had given them some assurance that if Dunedin rose to the occasion, it woujd be, supported in a worthy manner by the Government. Mr Massey said he did not intend to throw cold water on the proposal, but mentioned that they were committed to support an Imperial Exhibition, and were committed to the expenditure of £60,000. He conoluded: “Please, don’t ask me for any money just now. In regard to moral support, that’s easy, and you won’t have any fault to find with the Government on that score.”
