REDFERN MUNICIPAL BAND

ARRIVES TO-MORROW. TO PLAY AT TOWN HALL. The Redfera Municipal Band, the champion band of Australia, arrives in Wellington on Wednesday by the Ulimaroa. It has come to the Dominion for the purpose of taking part in the band contest at Dunedin, which commences on February 19th. The band has just finished a two years* engagement, playing every Sunday at Sydney Hippodrome. They took part in the band contest held in Sydney last week, an,d yesterday a cable waa received stating that they had practically cleared the board in the solo competitions, winning firsts in soprano, baritone, euphonium, baas, cornet, quartette, arid trio. This fine body of performers occupies the same position in the band world as the New South Wales Orchestra did in respect to orchestral music. Arrangements have been made to give the band a civic reception in tbe Town Hall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and the band is giving concerts at the Town Hall on Thursday and Friday evenings, the programmes for which will include some of the finest musical works in the world. The conductor is fib* W. Partington. who has an exceptional record of successes in band competitions. Music lovers should not fail to take advantage of the opportunity to hear a performance of exceptionally high merit, for it is by no means certain that the band will be able to give another concert on its way book to Australia.
