FREE LABOURER ATTACKED
TWO FIREMEN FINED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. Richard Williams and Patrick , Byrne, two firemen, appeared at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court charged with assaulting Leonard Cullimore, a greaser on the Wingatui. Byrne was also charged with the theft of several articles, the property of Cullimore, who is a free labourer. The evidence showed that accused, with others, went on board the vessel and assaulted Cullimore. and that Byrne ransacked his locker. Williams was fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, and Byrne was fined £2O for assault, in default two months’ imprisonment, and £lO, in default three months’ imprisonment, on tho charge of theft.
