Ten armed men laden with petrol smashed the door of an historic mansion at Artane, near Dublin. They said they were going to bum it as a reprisal for the execution of Republicans. The building was in ruins. The house of Senator Maurice Moore, brother of George Moore, the novelist, was similarly destroyed. Rare furniture in the house, which was the one where the independence of Connaught was signed in 1798, was destroyed. _ Senator Lineham’s house at Whitechurch, in Cork, was also destroyed, together with several houses at Dundalk, as a reprisal for the death of Dundalk rebels. Six death sentences of Republicans have been confirmed, and their executions are expected . during the week-end.
