Krogness gave a fine exhibition of hurdling, hut he and Merchant suffered injuries to their legs while jumping, and expect to be handicapped. during the remainder of the tour. The 100yds New Zealand championship resulted: —M. Kirksey 1, W. L. Elliot 2, T. Lynch 3. Won in the last three yards by a yard and a half, with one yard between the other placed men. Kirksey won the 100yds handicap in 10 l-ssec, and the 220yds handicap in 22 2-ssec, both from scratch. Krogness won his heat in the 120yds hurdles in 16 2-ssec from scratch, but in the final J. J. Gubble (6yds) heat him by half a yard in 15 3-ssec. Merchant won putting the shot with 43ft siin, 44ft lOJin, 45ft ljin, the last shot being the best he Had ever done. Krogness was fourth in the hop, step and jump, with 42ft from scratch, G. A. Plummer (scr) 46ft 3in winning. Merchant (scr) won the broad jump with 23ft 3iin, a New Zealand record, beating 23ft 3in established by Keddell (Southland) ten years ago. _ Krogness (scr) jumped 21ft 4 5-Bin in his first try, but at the second ho slipped, hurting his ankle. In the exhibition hammer throwing Merchant threw 145 ft and 157 ft.
