CBMPETITIONS RESULTS HIGH-CLASS PERFORMANCES AGAIN YESTERDAY. DETAILS OF -PRIZE-WINNERS. The events decided at yesterday's sessions of the competitions were many and. varied. Two more scholarships went through their preliminary stage, 'andi will be finally determined next week. These were the Society’3 Scholarship for the piano solo, thirteen arid under fifteen, which is valued at the handsome sum of £lO 10s, and the Ohas. Bogg and Co. Scholarship for North Island girls of sixteen years and under twenty-one. Other musical events were the tenor solo (own seleo tion) and the contralto solo for which the chosen song was. MaoCunn’e “Lie there, my Lute.” Tlie New Zealand Test Recital for ladies also passed its second stage, in which competitors rendered pieces so. lected by themselves. The first section was completed last Monday, being the set piece “Hilda Spinning,” ana yesterday the final three were reached. These competitors were recalled for Monday next, and this important event will he determined on that evening. The ladies’ humorous recitation and the humorous song in character were enjoyable numbers, and a goodly number of children’s event® completed the programme. Two charming combined ballets were danced 1 at the evening session, one of them giving a spirited rendering of the dancing of Russian .folk on a festive day, and the other an interpretation of a native scene, calm and quict and full of gladness. Two amusing ‘stories without words” were given, Misses Ruby Shepherd and Rona. Day and Master L. Shepherd visiting the photographer, and Miss Sinclair Breen 1 the competitions’ judges, officials and competitors in dumb show, moved the audience to loud laughter by her clever versatility. The work in this important section,' said Mr Hopkins, had been very: pleasing. The second piece had been a twenty-four-hours’ study test,, and naturally the quicker studiers had the advantage; The piece chosen, “Tho Old School Bell,” was not at all difficult, but he wished to compliment all the ladies recalled upon the manner in which they had rendered it.
