fOURN AMENT AT NAPIER. WELLINGTON AND POVERTY BAY IN FINAL. PBB PRESS ABBOOT VTIOS. NAPIER, August 31. The ladies’ hookey tournament was continued to-day in fine weather, when section play was completed, with- the result that Poverty Bay -and Wellington meet in the final for the Izard Cap on Saturday. To-day’s results A Section. —Wellington (4 goals) heat Eastern Southland! (nil); Marlborough (3 goals) beat Feilding: (nil). : B Section. —Hawke's Bay A <3 goals) beat Wairarapa (nil); Poverty, Bay (5 goals) beat Manawatu. (2 goals).: GAMES DESCRIBED. Wellington and Eastern Southland took the field on equal terms in A section,, and the result of the match left the former in the cup final. The game was keenly contested but not very attractive. The winners did most of the aggressive work, the forwards proving a-Worry to the opposing backs. At half-tame Wellington had a lead of 2 goals to- nil. Eastern Southland did some attacking in the seoohd spell, .but were unable to penetrate the defence, and Wellington registered taro more goals.- Mies Williams did all the soaring. '; The inexperienced Feilding team made a quite good showing against Marlborough, but tired- towards the close, when the winners were able to net the ball three times. Mieses Gleeson (2) and Brougham scored ih the Hawke’s BAy A v. Wairarapa match, the latter) of whom found difficulty in keeping control of the ball on account of the bumpy state of 'the ground. At half-time the home team had scored once. Wairarapa showed to advantage early in the Second half of : the game, but in tho long run Hawke’s Bay proved superior, and added two more goals. Misses Austin (2) arid Tankard scored. Poverty Bay’s viotory over Manawatu left them winners of -B section. Manawatu played vigorously, and were able to extend the Poverty Bay backs, who, however, were equal to the occasion. The - score. at half-time was two goals to one in. favour of the winners.. Manawatu frequently inyaded their opponents’ territory, 'but were Unfortunate with their shots, whereas Poverty Bay forwards made no mistakes when within striking distance. Misses Hill (2), Hei, Bilham, and Hals booted for the winners, and Miss McKenzie (2)-for the losers.
